Easy French Bread

  • 1 1/4 cup warm water
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast

In the bowl of your stand mixer mix water, sugar, and yeast together. Set aside for 5 minutes for it to get bubbly.

Add flour, salt, and butter and mix until a soft dough forms.

Cover and let rise until double, about 1 hour.

Pour dough out onto a floured surface and roll into a 12×8 rectangle. Then, roll up into a long loaf.

Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Cover and let rise until double, about 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 375.

Just before baking brush the dough with an egg white mixed with a little water and then cut three diagonal slits in the top of the dough.

Bake for 30-35 minutes.

Note – if desired, you can put a cup of boiling water in the oven to create steam for a crispier crust.
