This is my favorite chocolate frosting. It is so creamy and very chocolatey! Use this on my Favorite Chocolate Cake (recipe here) for the Ultimate Chocolate Cake!!!
Favorite Chocolate Buttercream
- 2 cups salted butter
- 6 ounces good quality chocolate of your choice (I love Guittard French Vanilla or Guittard Semi-Sweet chocolate chips)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 5 cups powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup dark cocoa powder
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Place chocolate in a small bowl. Heat cream in a microwave-safe dish until boiling, pour over chocolate in the bowl, and let sit undisturbed for 2 minutes. Then stir until the chocolate is melted, set aside.
In a bowl fitted with the whipping attachment. Beat the butter on medium speed until fluffy and almost white, about 7 minutes, scraping the sides of the bowl frequently.
Add cocoa powder and half of the powdered sugar and stir until well combined.
Add the vanilla and half of the remaining powdered sugar and stir until well combined.
Add the cooled chocolate mixture and gradually add the remaining powdered sugar.
Turn the mixer to medium-high and beat the frosting for 3 minutes until light and fluffy.
Before frosting your cake, or filling a pipping bag, use a wooden spoon to hand mix the frosting to push out the air bubbles. This will help the frosting have a smooth texture without little air bubbles.
