This has been a family favorite for years! Harissa is the secret ingredient that adds a hint of spice, but it isn’t overwhelming – it is so good!
Sausage Baked Ziti
- 3 Italian sausage links, cut into 1/2 inches cubes
- 1/2 green pepper, cut into chunks
- 1/2 yellow pepper, cut into chunks
- 1/2 onion, chopped into chunks
- 1-2 tbsp Harissa, to taste
- 2 cups prepared marinara sauce (I like this recipe)
- 1/2 pound cooked penne pasta
- 1 cup mozarella cheese
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
In a large skillet cook the sausage until it is nicely browned all over and almost cooked through. Add the peppers and onions and continue cooking for 4 minutes. Add the harissa and marinara sauce and stir well. Add the cooked pasta and stir to combine.
In a 9×9 baking dish sprayed with cooking spray, add 1/2 the noodle mixture. Sprinkle with 1/2 the cheese. Add the remaining noodles and then top with the remaining cheese.
Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes or until bubbly. Turn oven to broil and broil for 2-3 minutes or until the top is nicely brown.
