Southern Shrimp and Grits

What makes this dish so savory? BUTTER!! Lots and lots of butter, cream, and cheese!!

Southern Shrimp and Grits

GRITS:

  • 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 3/4 cup + 2 tbsp uncooked old-fashions grits
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

In a large saucepan bring all the ingredients except the grits and cheese to boil. Slowly stir in the grits. Reduce heat. Cover and cook for 12-14 minutes or until thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and stir in the cheese. Cover and set aside while preparing the shrimp.

SHRIMP:

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup bacon crumbles
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp cajun seasoning
  • 1/3 cup red onion, chopped
  • 3 tbsp butter

In a saucepan melt the butter. Stir in the bacon and onions and saute for 2-3 minutes. Add shrimp and cook until pink.

Serve the shrimp over a plate of grits.
